North Carolina BBQ SauceThere are actually two popular North Carolina BBQ sauce recipes. Both are vinegar-based recipes but in Western North Carolina they like to add tomato ketchup to their BBQ sauce. Both of these are good sauce but for a great sauce try the #1 Top Secret BBQ Sauce
Western Carolina BBQ Sauce RecipeIngredients3 cups apple cider vinegar In a saucepan, stir together the vinegar, red pepper flakes, pepper and salt. Bring to a boil. Stir in the ketchup and honey; reduce heat to low, and simmer for 30 minutes. This sauce is not only great on pulled pork sandwiches but is also good on pork spare ribs. Eastern North Carolina BBQ SauceThis is the BBQ sauce of eastern North Carolina. The barbecue sauce is vinegar based with no ketchup. It's very tangy, very thin, and wonderful on pulled pork sandwiches. It is also great for barbecuing chicken. Ingredients1 gallon white vinegar Combine the vinegar, cayenne pepper, black pepper, mustard powder, salt, lemons, and Worcestershire sauce in a large pot. Bring the Barbecue Sauce to a boil and then turn the heat to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes. You can't go wrong with whichever Carolina bbq sauce recipe you choose. You'll be a hit at the next pig pickin' with North Carolina BBQ sauce. |
